mYak : Tibetan Cloud Wool
Description par mYak :
Tibetan Cloud is a Sport/ Light DK weight of 100% Tibetan sheep wool, ethically sourced and traceable back to the flock. It comes exclusively from an ancient breed of Tibetan sheep that roam freely on the grassland of the Tibetan Plateau at an altitude of over 4000 mt.
This unique product has characteristics closer to fine fibers like cashmere and baby yak than to wool, not at all scratchy. It is a pleasure to knit with as it is to wear. As an added bonus, it has a beautiful stitch definition.
Out of deep respect for animal welfare, nomads shear the sheep by hand in the traditional way that has been used for centuries. The wool is collected following the natural life rhythms of the animals and the people who raise them. The Tibetan sheep are a very strong breed that has adapted to pretty rough environmental conditions. They can also be found in semi – desertic area and we have chosen one of these poorer areas for the sourcing of this collection to bring a better income to these communities. Like with our Baby Yak and Tibetan Cashmere, our aim is to give this thousand of years old nomadic lifestyle an opportunity to thrive and prosper in uncertain modern times. We seek to promote what the nomads have been producing since time immemorial while adding value by having the fiber spun and dyed in Biella, at the foothills of the Italian Alps, the cradle of most ancient and prestigious Italian textile excellence.

mYak : Baby Yak Lace
Description par mYak :
Two plies gently twisted together create a delicatelace-weight yarn perfect for lacy shawls and accessories. Used double, it’s warm and lustrous, lightweight and breathable, making it perfect to wear through the seasons.
According to the down color, we obtain three natural shades (chocolate, desert and oatmeal) which we dye in order to get our palette of soft colors that evoke the five elements of nature. Most yaks are of an intense shade, therefore light colors are very rare and even more precious.
On our baby yak colors, we only dye on the natural basis, no bleaching or decoloring. Each color will vary from season to season depending on the shade of the natural fibers, making it at times darker and at times lighter. This is the beauty of working with natural fibers and therefore the shade of the sample you see photographed here, might not always correspond to the shade we have in stock or at your local LYS.

mYak : Baby Yak Medium
Description par mYak :
Baby yak is the bedrock of our company. Touching worsted-spun baby yak down is a unique experience: a precious fiber that creates a fabric different from anything else you have ever knitted before. Worsted-spun baby yak down yarn is a luxury fiber that will yield a fabric unlike anything you have knit before. Baby yak has a similar micron count around 17 microns to cashmere. It is warm and lustrous, lightweight and breathable, making it perfect through the seasons.
Our baby yak colors are soft, heathered, earth tones combined with dark neutrals and few saturated rich ones. Most yaks are of darker shade, and thus light colors are very rare and even more precious. Warmer than wool, and as soft as cashmere, our 100% baby yak is the right choice if you are looking for a unique, ethically sourced fiber good for you, for the environment and for the community that produce it.
We only dye on the natural basis, no bleaching or decoloring. Each color will vary from season to season depending on the shade of the natural fibers, making it at times darker and at times lighter. Our naturally-dyed Tibetan cashmere will only be available in limited runs because these natural colors vary constantly throughout the year. Therefore, the garments you are going to create with it will always be unique.
It’s a marriage made in woodsy heaven. We took the beauty and softness of mYak’s undyed Tibetan cashmere and added magical mushroom pigments! Using natural dyeing techniques and foraged mushrooms, Julie Dam of EverCrafting.com created a retro palette of golden yellows and ’70s-kitchen greens (hence the Mad Men-inspired colorway names). These very special skeins of cashmere are dyed in small batches in New York City.
Because of the nature of the dyeing process, each skein is unique. We recommend alternating skeins in larger projects and hand-washing your finished objects. Skeins are triple-washed, but some run-off may occur. As with all textiles made using natural dyes, please take care to avoid leaving in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
